[8],7-135 ff., 188:110 mm., light age staining, ink on paper, 30-32 lines per page, neat Ashkenazic script, signed by well known Prague censor Carolus Fischer on f. 83v and final, bound in contemporary morocco, with silt floret border, tooled in blind, rubbed. Inscribed on frontal binding in gold lettering, "Moshe Chanoch Halevi" in square Hebrew characters.

Description
Book of Isaiah with Judeo-German translation and Hebrew commentary. Translated by Meir Abranik, commentary by Heinrich Josephson. In the forward, the author of the commentary Heinrich Josephson wrote that he's emulating the example of Moses Mendelsohn's Biur commentary on the Torah. Though he's convinced of the value of David Friedlander's German translation of the Haphtorot, it didn't fit the needs of this edition. (Friedlander was a disciple and in some sense the successor of Mendelsohn). Each chapter of this manuscript is subdivided in two: The Judeo-German translation followed by the Hebrew Biur to that chapter. That the author obtained the imprimatur of Prague's censor, Carolus Fischer indicates that the author was on the verge of printing his manuscript but no Bibliographic record of this work exists anywhere. A rare find from the beginning of German Haskalah literature.
