Description		    Letter by R. Abraham Duber b. Zalman Sender Kahana Shapiro (1871- 1943) Rabbi of Kovno and Talmudic scholar. He was born in Kobrin, Belarus and studied at the famous yeshiva in Volozhin where he was known as the Iluy of Kobrin. At age 26, R. Shapiro served as the Rabbi of Smolvitz and had already published three volumes of Talmudic research. In 1912 he was appointed Chief Rabbi of Kovno where he was the representative of the Jews of Lithuania and served for over 30 years. R. Shapiro passed-on on Adar 22nd 1943 of illness, one day after the Yahrzeit of his most illustrious predecessor R. Isaac Elhanan Spektor. He was buried in the Kovno Ghetto by several thousand followers. His responsa, Dvar Abraham, appeared in several volumes.
