Handwritten postcard by D. Hoffmann, Berlin, addressed to Rabbi Dr. A. Cohn, Basel, written on December 13, 1907.
In this postcard D. Hoffmann thanks Dr. A. Cohn for a gas lamp, which he had received on Chanukah as a present for a not specified favor.
The writer of the postcard is probably R. David Hoffmann (1843 - 1921), who became the head of the orthodox rabbinal seminary in Berlin after Hildesheimer's death.
The addressee is most likely Dr. Arthur Cohn (1862-1926), orthodox Rabbi in Basel, and head of the "Zentralverein zur Foerderung des gesetzestreuen Judentums in der Schweiz." After the 10th Zionist Congress in Basel, Arthur Cohn requested to form an association for the interests of orthodox Jews which resulted in the founding of Agudas Jisroel in 1912. |
