Description		    Commentary by R. Aharon Elijah Raphael Moses ben Isaac Perera (d. 1888) on the Etz Hayyim of R. Hayyim Vital (1543-1620) and Sha’ar ha-Kavvanot attributed to R. Isaac Luria (ha-Ari). Etz Hayyim is the inclusive name for all those writings of R. Isaac Luria (ha-Ari) in which R. Vital, the leading disciple of the Ari, elaborated on the teaching of R. Luria, making it one of most significant later works of Kabblah. Sha’ar ha-Kavvanot, an early work attributed to the Ari and also known through R. Vital. The title page describes Me’il ha-Kodesh u-Begdei Yesha as being glosses on Etz Hayyim and on Sha’ar ha-Kavvanot. A source of R. Perera’s annotations was the glosses of his father on these works. The title page is dated with the verse “And this is the Torah of the meal offering; the sons of Aaron shall offer it before the Lord, before the altar” (Leviticus 6:7). The text is preceded by an introduction from R. Perara and a prayer to be recited prior to learning Kabbalah. The text is in two parts. The first is Toldot Adam on Etz Hayyim, the second, with its own title page and dated with the verse “nd the holy garments of Aaron shall be his sons’ after him” (Exodus 29:29), is Toldot Adam on Sha’ar ha-Kavvanot. R. Perera died in the middle of printing Me’il ha-Kodesh u-Begdei Yesha on 26 Elul 5648, and eulogies for him can be found by ff. 47-49.
