Description		    2, [2] 196 pp. octavo 230:170 mm., usual light age staining, nice margins. A very good copy bound in later boards, rubbed. Includes the oft lacking approbations.

Description		    Complete, and therefore rare, copy of these discourses on the weekly Torah portion by R. Aryeh Judah Loeb ben Akiva ha-Levi (1759-1818), rabbi in Podhitz and Brody. The title page describes it as including “desirable discourses, sharp, ‘sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb’ (cf. Psalms 19:11) ‘speaking righteousness and declaring things that are right’ (Isaiah 45:19), homilies delivered publicly, by a great man, ‘chief of the herdsman’ (I Samuel 21:8), the gaon, the righteous R. Aryeh Loeb . . .” Nahalei Devash was arranged and brought to press by the author’s grandson, R. Jacob Loewe. Included here, but lacking in most copies, is a two page insert of approbations from R. Samuel Zanvil Altmann and R. Abraham Benjamin Kluger. That they are missing from most copies may be attributed to their having been printed later than the book itself, evident from the dates of these approbations which are later than the publication date of Nahalat Devash. In addition to those approbations, there are also approbations from R. Jehiel Michael Kristanfeller and R. Abraham Mendel ha-Levi Steinberg. There is an introduction form the author’s grandson, and then the text, in two column s in rabbinic letters. At the ndo the book are discourses on festivals and an index of sources.
