Extremely important document detailing the estate and distribution of the HIDA. In the responsa, R. Raphael Isaiah Azulai (1743-1826), son of the HIDA, states that he cannot take his share of the estate as the other inheritor did not reach Livorno in time for his sainted father's funeral due to war. In the document he discuses financial affairs the HIDA wished to engage in and displays great erudition in his knowledge of halakha.
R. Raphael Isaiah Azulai was a noted talmudist and emissary. He accompanied his father on his mission to Constantinople in 1764. In 1774 he visited Smyrna, possibly as an emissary for Erez Israel, and three years later was in Leghorn. In 1782 he was again in Italy, this time as an emissary for Tiberius. Apparently, he also visited Germany. After completing his assignment as an emissary to Amsterdam in 1783, he stayed on there until 1787, engaging in the book trade. From 1788 until his passing he served as rabbi of Ancona. His only published work is a four page responsa in financial laws (Pisa 1810) which is endorsed by several noted rabbis. |
