Detailed
Description
Responsa and novellae by the Sephardic sage R. Isaac Bekhor David. There are introductions from R. Abraham ben Avigdor, son-in-law of the author, the dayyan R, Hayyim Madoai, R. Aaron di Toledo, and from Isaac Bekhor David. The text begins with Orah Hayyim, and, from 1a-38b, consist of twelve responsa. Next are several kuntresim on Gittin, lavin, and other deep and weighty discussions of Talmudic subjects. The first part of Divrei Emet concludes with an index, followed by fifteen discourses on the Torah.

R. Isaac Bekhor David (1690-1755) is considered one of the greatest sages of Constantinople. He was born in that city and learned Torah in the yeshiva of R. Samuel ha-Levi. He left over three sons who were considered among the leading rabbis of their time and who printed their father’s Divrei Emet. The Hida, who was a contemporary of R. Isaac Bekhor David wrote in praise of both the author and of his Divrei Emet. From then until the present both Sephardic and Ashkenazi rabbis have nothing but the highest praise for this work. The Hida, in his Ein Zokher, describes R. Isaac Bekhor David as a wonder of his generation and as reflected in Divrei Emet.
