R. Isaac Bekhor David (1690-1755) is considered one of the greatest sages of Constantinople. He was born in that city and learned Torah in the yeshiva of R. Samuel ha-Levi. He left over three sons who were considered among the leading rabbis of their time and who printed their father’s Divrei Emet. The Hida, who was a contemporary of R. Isaac Bekhor David wrote in praise of both the author and of his Divrei Emet. From then until the present both Sephardic and Ashkenazi rabbis have nothing but the highest praise for this work. The Hida, in his Ein Zokher, describes R. Isaac Bekhor David as a wonder of his generation and as reflected in Divrei Emet.
