Dr. Alfons Goldschmidt was born in Gelsenkirchen, Germany in 1879. He studied at the Universities of Munich, Berlin, Kiel and Freiburg im Breisgau. He received his doctoral degree for his thesis entitled "Leo Toldstoy's Social Problem." He was active as the editor of the economic section of the Berliner Tagblatt, and as editor-in-chief of the Department of Economics of the Ullstein Publishing House in Berlin. He was also a contributor to a number of other German publications.
From 1915 to 1922, he was a lecturer at the Institute for Journalism at the University of Leipzig. From 1922 to 1925, Dr. Goldschmidt taught Political Economy at the University of Cordoba in Argentina and at the National University of Mexico in Mexico City.
In 1929, Dr. Goldschmidt founded the Economic Institute for Latin America. This Institute began to function in Berlin and was on its way to scientific progress when the advent of Hitler's regime caused its complete suspension.
Dr. Goldschmidt is the author of many books, including: The economic organization of Soviet Russia, The Third Conquest of America, The Argentine, and many others.
