This play about Solomon and Jeroboam incorporates the suggestion of Bukh's friend that Jeroboam be identified with the legendary Asmodeus, king of the demons. Dismayed that few ancient sources on the period remained extant, Bukh based this work on all extant sources (i.e., the Bible, Talmud and Midrash). Bukh authored it in a style that he considered to be the one spoken during the prophetic period (p. 8). The endnotes deal with his choice of language and idiomatic usage (pp. 1-3). Appended is an advertisement for his work Yisrael (New York 1911-12), with a description of its contents (pp. [2-3]).
