Description

Commentary on the weekly Torah readings and books of the Bible by R. Hayyim b. David Knoller (1847-1947) of Przemysl. The title page describes Kevod Hakhamim as being founded on the three pillars: Firstly, the great depth of the words of the sages from the Babylonian and Jerusalem Talmuds, Midrsah Rabbah, Hazzit, and Tanhumah, Mekhilta, Sifrai, and Sifra, Zohar, Tikkunim, Zohar Hadash, Pirkei De-Rabbi Eliezer, Avot de-Rabbi Nathan, Yalkut Shimoni, Rashi. He brings all in order on Tanakh and resolves issues. Secondly, many sources are arranged. Many times a source is given but cannot be found. They are here given in the correct order of Tanakh. Lastly, many things are said in the above sources in the manner of exaggeration. R. Knoller explains that the intent of these sages was not to say something that was not so, but that the apparent exaggeration is in fact true, and that midrashim that appear as inexplicable riddles and of great difficulty are explained in a reasonable manner. The title page also includes a list of R. Knoller’s other books. There are several approbations from prominent rabbis, an introduction from R. Knoller, and then the text.
