Kabbalistic work based on the Zohar to teach ethics and good middot by R. Aaron Solomon b. Katriel Maharil. The subtitle states that it is from the pure olive oil of the holy Zohar. Berurei ha-Middot is a collection of sayings on good Middot and conduct, which practices are to be followed continuously according to the Talmud and poskim. It includes a commentary and explanation to resolve doubts and divisions in practical halakhah. There is a forward to the reader from the compiler and then the text, which is organized alphabetically. The alphabetical section on Middot concludes on p. 66, followed by likkutim. The volume concludes with the introduction, which begins that the essence of the book does not require an introduction; the small amount of halakhot that are in Berurei ha-Middot can be found in the books of the poskim and commentators. The Middot in it have been taken from other works. That which is in the Talmud is without clear reasons and explanations, for the sages of the Talmud concealed them. It is in the Zohar that these reasons are explained in depth. Often it appears as if the Zohar contradicts the Talmud and often appears to contradict itself, and in many places it is difficult to understand. Here all three, the Zohar, Talmud, and poskim stand on truth and in peace. |
