Detailed
Description
On the Mosaic theocracy, or Israelite state prior to 70 CE by Professor Giuseppe Levi (1814-74). There is a subtitle, describing the book as Studoi Critico e storico (a critical and historical study). The book is dedicated in memory Del Conte Cammilo Benso di Cavour, sacra all’italia, alla Liberta questa Dimonstrazione . . . . There is a preface (3-8) and then the text. Sulla teocrazia mosaica is divided into four parts, each comprised of several chapters. They are Sulla teocrazia mosaica; Il popolo; Il Sacerdozio; and Il Porfetsimo. The book is completed with an index of the chapters.

Among Professor Giuseppe Levi’s other works are Das Buch der jüdischen Weisheit: Parabeln, Legenden und Gedanken aus Talmud und Midrasch and Cristiani ed Ebrei nel Medio Evo : quadro di costumi; con un` appendice di ricordi e leggende giud. Professor Levi also was the editor, together with Esdra Pontremoli, of L'educatore Israelita. That journal, originally intended for children but later enlarged its scope, became a force in Piedmontese Jewry, land was largely responsible for the reorganisation of the communities. After Prof. Levi’s death the new editor, Flaminio Servi, changed the title in Il Vesillo Israelitico, which continued to appear until 1922.
