Detailed
Description
A beautiful appeal letter by the greater community of Miedzychod (German: Birnbaum), a town in Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland, about 75 km west of Poznan to the Bet Din in Hamburg. The appeal relates the sad events of a woman who was divorced and left with one son to raise. Despite her struggles the woman raised the son who went on to be a successful businessman and in turn supported his divorced mother. Apparently the son married and moved to Hamburg and eventually passed on. His estate was dispersed to relatives with a substantial portion to his father; the mother appears to have received nothing.

The mother is requesting the Bet Din of Hamburg to review the deceased son's papers and last will to ascertain if she is not the intended recipient of her son's monies. She claims that the son was estranged form the father who remarried a "shrew" and was close only to her, his mother.

The document written in beautiful prose and script is signed by several members of the Miedzychod community. The final signatory is R. Aaron Kahane, the scribe and representative of the kahal. R. Aaron, little is known of him, was a student and disciple of R. Akiva Eger and is recorded several times in his responsa.
