Description		    Only edition of this work addressing all the details of Hanukkah. The contents have been compiled from many other important works on the subject. Ner Mitzvah addresses the holiness of Hanukkah, the allusions relating to the festival, the halakhot of lighting the Hanukkah menorah, the prayers to be said prior to lighting, the actual benedictions and mizmorim with explanations, songs, and piyyutim from books of the Sephardim, Megillat Antiochus, midrashim, the story of Yehudit from manuscripts, Josiphon, Toledot Hashmona’im, mussar, aggadot, all related to Hanukkah. There are introductions from R. Grunwald, a table of contents, and the text. Ner Mitzvah is an unusually rich work on the festival of Hanukkah.

R. Asher Anshel ben Meir Grunwald was a shohet in Satmer for many years and afterwards in Ungvar. He was a grandson of R. Meir Ash and his mother was the daughter of R. Joshua Baruch Reinitz, av bet din Chernowitz. He was murdered during the Holocaust. Among R. Grunwald’s other books are Kizzur Nahalat Shiva (Ungvar, 1926), a tikkun on writing Tannaim and Ketubbot; Simlah Hadasha (Ungvar, 1927) on hilkhot shehita and trefus; and Zokher ha-Berit (Ungvar, 1931) on milah.
