R. Israel b. Zvi Welz (1887-1993) was born in Lemes, Hungary, a suburb of Kosice and Presov. An erudite scholar he served in several communities including Chief Judge of Budapest. He emigrated to Erez Israel in 1949 and was appointed to the Jerusalem Bet Din, were he served until his passing. He wrote Hok le-Israel, a comprehensive collection of rules for Erev Pessah that falls on a Sabbath. His responsa appeared regularly in every period Torah journal, indeed some in every issue (Hamaor).
R. Samuel b. Joshua Falk Kipnis (1883-1979) was born in Norinsk, Ukraine. He came to Erez Israel in 1934 and was deeply involved in many community and rabbinic projects. He served in the rabbinate of several communities in Russia, followed by Jerusalem. |
