Detailed Description |
|
Certificate awarding right to slaughter kosher meat in Karizin by the long time rabbi R. Joshua b. Nahman Epstein (1853-). He was born in Sokolka and raised in Lithuanian yeshivot and received ordination form R. Israel Salanter and R. Isaac Elhanan Spector. R. Shapira was appointed in 1884 to the Karizin rabbinate and served many years. An erudite scholar he authored Keren Jehoshua (Warsaw-Piotrikov 1896-1906) in two volumes, homilies, novellae, and halakhic discourses. His works carry the approbations of the generations leading Rabbis and scholars. The work sold thousands of copies and was reprinted several times during the life of the author. |
