Detailed
Description		    Only edition of the responsa of R. David Papu (Papou), chief rabbi of Baghdad. The responsa are on all four parts of the Shulhan Arukh followed by likkutim and a detailed index. R. Papu (1848-1927) was born in Constantinople and was raised in the company of the leading sages of the city. He served as Hakham Bashi in the city of Bursa in the vicinity of Izmir, next was Hakham Bashi in Monestar, and, in 1899, became chief rabbi of Baghdad. After World War I R. Papu was suspected by the newly independent government of Iraq of supporting the previous government and was seized by them. He vowed that if freed and delivered from his oppressors he would give up his rabbinic positions and the honor of the rabbinate, instead going up to Jerusalem where he would spend his time in Torah and Avodah. His prayer was answered and miraculously R. Papu was delivered from the new governments harsh judgment. R. Papu did not delay in fulfilling his vow and immediately went up to Jerusalem where he was greeted with great joy and emotion. In Jerusalem R. Papu was appointed av bet din to the Sephardi community and delivered discourses there in Hebrew and Arabic. In addition to Penei David R. Papu was also author of Bebei Meir (Jerusaelm, 1914), discourses).

על שתיים מתשובותיו (דף יט,ג; מב,ג) חתם: מעט דב"ש [דוד בן שלמה]. דף קנא-קסב: "נוסח הצוואה של המנוח השר בנין מנחם משה", 12 תמוז תרע"ט. בצירוף פסק-דין מר' יוסף מרדכי [ידיד] הלוי, שעליו כתבו והסכימו המחבר, רבני ירושלים, חברון וצפת, ור' בן-ציון מאיר חי עוזיאל.
