Detailed Description |
|
Rare and unusual copy of a manuscript of a mahzor written during the Holocaust. The mahzor is for Rosh HaShanah and Yom ha-Kippurim. The title page states that it was written in a captive camp in Russia in 1944 in the fifth year of the terrible World War. The author writes that we did not have mahzorim to pray from at this propitious time of prayer. We cried to the Lord that that He to redeem us and gather our dispersed. The mahzor begins with Shaharit for the first day of Rosh HaShanah and continues through Minhah for Yom ha-Kippurim. It concludes with a prayer for Hoshannah Rabbah. This is a moving document, testifying to the faith, determination, and perseverance of Jews under the most horrible of conditions.
