This book influenced public opinion on the blood accusation of Tisza-Eszlàr, then on trial before a court of law. Leopold Lipschitz (1836-1904) was a rabbi and communal leader. He studied at the yeshiva of his father, R. Isaac Nathan Lipschitz. He also acquired a secular education of wide scope. He was active in the centralized organization of the Orthodox Jewish community of Hungary , and served as an official of the Orthodox chancery. He served as a Rabbi in Abaujszinto from 1874 to 1890, when he was appointed president of the Orthodox chancery. In that capacity, he was the head of Hungarian Orthodoxy for more than a decade. He did much to bring Orthodox Jewry into the civic community of Hungary, mediating between government and the Orthodox community. |
