Letter by R. Samuel HaLevi Wosner (b. 1913),rabbi and posek living in Bnei Brak, Israel. He was born in Vienna, Austria and he studied in the famous Yeshivat Hakhmei Lublin of Poland led by R. Meir Shapiro and he was also a student of Rabbi Simeon of Zelicov who was the official supervisor and caretaker at the Yeshiva. In Vienna, he had known and befriended the late Rabbi Chanoch Dov Padwa of Galicia.
He married and immigrated to Erez Israel before the Holocaust, and liveded in Jerusalem where he studied at the Dushinsky Yeshiva. When he moved to Bnei Brak, upon the incentive of the Hazon Ish, R. Dov Berish Widenfeld of Tshebin, R. Isser Zalman Meltzer, and R. Yitzhak HaLevi Herzog he established his "Yeshiva Hakhmei Lublin" bearing the same name as the one in Lublin where he studied in his youth.
An erudite scholar and prolific writer he is the author of several works of Jewish law, such as Shevet HaLevi ("The Tribe of Levi"), a comprehensive series of Halachic rulings on Jewish laws comprising of ten volumes and several other Torah works all bearing the same name. |
