Segulot and remedies based on the writings of R. Isaac Luria (ha-Ari, 1532-72). The title page, with a decorative border, states that includes the order of ketoret (incense offering) slected from the writings of the Ari and the order of the steps of the holy gaon R. Shimon Astropoli, which are palliative for the plague and all other evils. It is necessary to make known that one should not utter the holy names except if one has the proper intents and thoughts. The title page is dated from the verse, “that the plague may be stayed from the people” (I Chronicles 21:22). The verso has an introduction to the order of ketoret, followed by the order of ketoret to be recited. The prayers associated with this section are followed (8a) by the introduction to order of the steps and lastly (10b) selected segulot and refuot. The volume concludes with a line prohibiting hasugut gevul.
R. Ezra Reuben Dangoor’s (1848–1930) press opened in 1904. Dangoor was the hakham bashi of Baghdad. His printing press was in existence until 1921 and over 100 books were printed on it. For the greater part they were books of prayers and piyyutim according to the custom of the Baghdad Jews, but there were also some popular books in the Judeo-Arabic jargon and a Hebrew weekly. |
