   Only edition. [4], 305 ff., octavo 190:125 mm., light age and use staining. A very good copy bound in contemporary boards, rubbed.
          
Paragraph 1    The R. Manasseh ben Matlub Sutton (Sathun) copy with his inscription on title. He was born in Aram Zova (Aleppo) and died in Iskandrun (1876). Considered among the distinguished sages of Aleppo, R. Sutton was knowledgeable in all aspects of Torah learning, including the calendar and grammar. In addition, he was well informed in astronomy, mathematics, and engineering. R. Sutton supported himself through business initiatives. His other published works are Pirhei Shoshanim (Aram Zova, 1915) on spiritual development through stories, poems, and song; Klalei Dikdukei Ha-Kria (Aram Zova, 1914) on the rules of grammar effecting reading of the Torah (published with Peh Eliyahu); Matteh Menashe, three volumes of Hiddushim on Talmud and Rambam; and Siftei Zaddik on the Shulhan Arukh. Other works remain in manuscript. In 1870 he retired and moved to Jerusalem, but four years after was called to be Chief Rabbi of Aram Zova. In 1876 he was entreated to become rabbi of No-Amon in Egypt, but passed away in Alexandria before he could reach his new home.

Description
   Comprehensive mahzor for Pesah and Shavu'ot according to the Sephardic rite arranged by R. Abraham Shalom Hai Hamavi. Bet ha-Behira is intended to make understandable and to teach all the statutes and all the ordinances of Pesah. It is entitled Bet ha-Behira in order to “let the light shine on it” (cf. Job 3:4) “and the strong shall be as flax” (Isaiah 1:31) the house of the Lord on hilkhot Atzeret, the day on which the Torah was give. . . . It is dated with the verse “[But the humble shall inherit the earth]; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” (Psalms 37:11). There is an introduction from the author and builder of battim and approbations from R. Abraham Tolosa, R. Elijah ben Amozag, and R. Israel Kushata, all Sehpardi Tohor. Bet ha-Behira begins with the halakhot for erev Rosh Hodesh Nissan, Rosh Hodesh Nissan, with accompanying readings from the Torah for each day prior to the holiday. There are detailed halakhot for each aspect of preparing for the holiday such as kashering utensils and immersing them in a mikvah. Included are prayers for the festivals of pesah and Shavu'ot, the Pesah Haggadah with appropriate laws and instructions, the intermediate days of the holiday, laws for the se'udot on Shavu'ot, Megillot Ruth, applicable customs, and the Azharot of R. Solomon ibn Gabriel.
