Description
Numbered organization handbook for the society for saying kaddish and providing support for those in need. The booklet is printed entirely in blue ink It is fully titled Tiferet Bahurim me’ah sha’arim. The following page has the heading “appoint for thyself a teacher and acquire for thyself a companion” (Avot 1:6) followed by pinkas haver no. 222 and at the bottom of the page “Ho, every one who thirsts, come to the waters” (Isaiah 55:1). Next is a list of leading founding rabbis, R. Abraham Eliashov and R. Nahum ha-Levi Auerbach, then members of the va’ad of the society, among them R. Auerbach, R. Abraham Samuel Goldberg, R. Eleazer Dov Hering, R. Naftali Joseph Klugman, and R. Hayyim Azulai and also in the Va’ad R. Meir Mirkis and R. Samuel Brekman. Tehre is an account page for the member, and then the rules so the society, including takkanot ahavat re’im (companionship) and a list of the members, 146 names. The booklet concludes with calendars for the years 1933-38, birkhat ha-hodesh, names of deceased members and prayers for the deceased after learning. Tiferet Bahurim is an important and insightful piece of Jewish and Jerusalem history in the early days of the resettlement of the country, showing how Jerusalemites cared for each other.
