Detailed
Description
The Pentateuch, parts I-II, Targum Onkelos, and Tafsir. All are written in square Yemenite letters with lower punctuation and cantillation symbols for the Pentateuch and Targum only. Pentateuch, Targum Onkelos and Tafsir are given verse of each following verse of each.

The weekly Pentateuch portion is enjoined to be read privately "twice in the original and once in the Targum" (Ber. 8a), a custom which is still maintained to this day. Many include in this reading of the Tafsir and the commentary of Rashi, as was the custom in Yemen. For hundreds of years the Yemenite Jewish communities followed their traditional ways of secular and religious life, not being influenced by external trends and currents. Some customs in the Yemenite prayer rites go back to the prayer book of R. Saadiah Ga'on. From the 16th century on the Kabbalah and especially later its Lurianic school and system found its way to Yemen and influenced Jewish literary production in the areas of commentaries to the Bible, prayers, and liturgic poetry. All of this rich history is reflected in this work.
