Detailed Description |
|
Portfolio of 68 full-color facsimile plates (some double sized). With hardcover "Textband - Commentaries" 112 pp. and 30 pp. in Hebrew. A Jewish Prayer Book for holidays. It has the complete cycle of the Jewish Year and is ornamentally and figuratively illustrated. The "Machsor Lipsiae" [Machsor of the city of Leipzig] also gives a picture of the customs and ceremonies of the Jewish Communities in Southern Germany during the 14th Germany, when the manuscript was written. The style of the illustrations [mainly Biblical scenes] is "oberrheinische Buchmalerei" [Book Illumination of the Upper Rhine area]. One of the authors can possibly be identified as the author of the famous "Bird's Head Haggadah" in Jerusalem. |
