Description		    Letter by R. Baruch Marcus (1870-1961), Chief Rabbi Haifa for 55 years. He was born near Kovna and rasied in the Lithuanian educational system. Among his teachers were the Alte of Kelm and the Saba of Slabodka. He was appointed to the Haifa rabbinate in 1905 and served until his passing. He wrote Imre Baruch and many other responsa

R. Joshua b. Israel Selig Kaniel (1886-1970) was born near Grodna and came to Erez Israel in 1906. He studied with R. Abraham Isaac Kook and was ordained by him. R. Kaniel was a founding member of the Yeshiva Merkaz Harav.

R. Nissim Benyamin b. Masud Ohanna (1882-1962), was born in Medea, Algeria and came to Erez Israel in 1888. He studied with R. Elyasher, Rishon leTzion, and was ordained by him. He served in the rabbinate of the Syrian Community in New York, Malta, Port Said, Cairo and Gaza. In 1947 he was appointed to the Chief Rabbinate of Haifa.
          
Paragraph 2    הרב ברוך מרכוס (1961-1870), רב ראשי של חיפה. נולד בליטא, שם הוסמך לרבנות. לאחר נישואיו עלה לארץ ישראל. שהה ביפו ועבר לירושלים, שם ייסד וניהל את ישיבת אור חדש. בשנת 1906 התמנה לרב הראשי האשכנזי של חיפה וכיהן בתפקידו 55 שנה. כיהן כיושב ראש הראשון של בית הדין הרבני בחיפה. התמסר לייסודו ולחיזוקו של ועד הישיבות בארץ ישראל, והיה חבר מועצת הרבנות הראשית לארץ ישראל. בשנותיו האחרונות נבחר לנשיאות הכבוד של תנועת המזרחי בחיפה. פירסם חידושי תורה בבימות תורניות שונות ואת החיבור "אמרי ברוך". היה לו חלק נכבד בניהול ענייני הדת והרבנות בארץ.
