Detailed
Description
Only edition of this explanation of the aggadot in tractates Berakhot, Seder Mo’ed, and several tractates on Nashim by R. Aaron Zelig ben Joel Feibush. Olat Aharon has an attractive title page comprised of a head-piece with cherubim holding center piece with yet another cherub, in the middle of the page the acorn symbol utilized by several printers, and at the bottom a cherub smoking a pipe. There are approbations from nine rabbis followed by R. Aaron Zelig’s introduction.

The history of the Offenbach press and its history is of interest. Israel ben Moses ben Abraham Halle, active in Offenbach, although not continuously, from 1718/19 to c. 1738/43 was the son of Moses ben Abraham Avinu, a colorful proselyte. Israel, too, worked in various locations with the family, helping to set the Frankfort on the Oder Talmud (1697-99), his name appearing together with that of Elle in the colophon of tractate Niddah and in a Polish and Ashkenaz rite mahzor (1700). Israel accompanied his father to Halle, where he went into business, failed, and was forced to leave that city “plötzlich aus Halle verschwunden” owing approximately a thousand thaler. Israel next printed in Offenbach associated with the press of Bonaventura de Launoy. Israel was assisted at the press by his sons Abraham and Tobias and his daughter Rebecca as compositors, representing, together with Moses ben Abraham Avinu, three successive generations of proselytes who worked at the printers’ craft.
