Description		    [3], viii, 228 p., quarto, 211:127 mm., light browning. A very good copy bound in modern half calf and printed paper boards, corners tipped in.
          
Paragraph 1    First edition with dedication to Moses Montefiore for his benevolent assistance. Cecil Roth records the Author's demise as 1824 (Enc. Jud) while he is very much alive in 1834! Rare - no record of sale in ABPC.

Description		    Faith of Israel, selected from the writings of the most eminent divine philosophers and commentators.
          
Paragraph 2    Goodman, was born in Bohemia, went to England at the close of the 18th century. In 1806 he was a schoolmaster in Liverpool, where he is said to have preached the earliest synagogue sermons delivered in English. He was subsequently associated with the Westminster Synagogue in London, where he delivered various addresses, the earliest both delivered and published in English, on the death of the Princess Charlotte (1817) and of King George III (1820). Goodman published Jedaiah Penini's Behinat Olam with an English translation (1806). He was an active religious controversialist.
