Description		    A manual of the physical sciences by one of the most original thinkers of Polish-Lithuanian Jewry of that era. We know very few biographical details about him. Like most of the enlighteners of his genaration, he led a wanderer’s life, traveled through Galicia Germany, and Holland, and also spent some time in London. He was a profoundly believing, mystically minded nature, and faithful to the tradition of his fathers. He refused to acknowledge the truth of Copernicus’ system which regards the sun as the center of the universe leading him to espouse the theory of Tycho Brahe that all the plants do, indeed, revolve around the sun but the sun itself revolves around the earth. Although he did not have the command of a single European language, nevertheless, he acquired a relatively significant knowledge in the field of science.

R. Horowitz’s great assiduity in working through the nights ruined his vision and became blind. He took a vow that, if he recovered and were able to complete his work, he would publish it anonymously. With the aid of Lemberg doctors he recovered, and completed his book and published it in 1797, without his name appearing on it.

(חלק א-ב). בראשי הדפים: חלק א' כתב יושר; חלק ב' דברי אמת. שם המחבר נרמז בראש ההקדמה: "אני פחות נבזה חברתי ספר זה אבל לאל יתברך השבח והודיה בחננו נמלה מקטני ארץ ישע רב ודעת ותבונה ישתבח לנצח נצחים אמן", ראשי-תיבות: פנחס זה אליהו בן מאיר ווילנא. דף [1]: אישור הצנזור, בגרמנית, בצידו האחד של הדף ובכתב צו"ר הצידו השני. האישור ניתן ביום 21 ביאנואר 1799, כשנה ומחצה לאחר הדפסת הספר, שלפי הקולופון נשלמה ביום יד באייר תקנ"ז, דף זה הודבק לספר, לפני השער. חלק ב, דף סו: מאמר מאת ר' בער אופנהיים מפרעשבורג. בהוצאות הבאות של הספר נשמט מאמר זה.
