Zeror Perahim is a collection of rhetorical and poetical works, many of a religious nature. The text begins with Tephilla ha-Shahar, and the following tephillas include tephilla for a beloved one, for a son, mention of the wisdom of HaShem, tephilla at a time of war. Other subjects include the seasons, and insights into death. The second half of the book is poetry, primarily on aspects of nature.
Schoenfeld, part of the Gallician Haskalah, was a frequent contributor to such publications as Bikkurei ha-Ittim. He translated poems from German and Latin, composed fables, and wrote long historical essays on subjects such as the political order established by Moses. In addition to Zeror Perahim Schoenfeld wrote an ethical work, Mussar Haskel (Prague, 1831); and several additional books of poetry, Minhah Belulah (Vienna, 1850); Anaf Atz Hayyim (Ofen, 1841); and Shalmei Todah (Hamburg, 1840)
