Description		    Only edition. [5], 4-112, vi pp. [1 large folout, 2 charts], quarto, 265:207 mm., wide margins, usual light age staining. A very good copy, with all charts and foldouts, bound in contemporary cloth, lacking spine.

Description		    Commentary on the last nine chapters of the book of Ezekiel, explaining the whole plan of the Temple, courts, gates, etc. An especially attractive volume set in clear square letters on good paper. Be-or Hadash is further enhanced by the inclusion of three illustrations of the future Temple, the first a large fold out with English descriptions of locations within the Temple and the Temple courtyard. The other two full page illustrations are of the entrance to the Heichal (Temple), the first according to the opinion of “other commentators” the second the opinion of the author. The volume begins with a list of errata and a table of contents, followed by the author’s introduction (3-8). In the first paragraph of the introduction R. Schnitzler observes that people tend to skip introductions, there importance not withstanding, and that printers at time omit them. He requests that the reader not do so here as his introduction contains important rules for understanding the text. The text is comprised of Biblical verses and R. Schnitzler’s commentary, written in a clear and lucid style.

The author, R. Joseph ben Azriel ha-Levi Schnitzler came to London from Amsterdam. He informs in the introduction that he has been blind for the last twenty eight years. Therefore, R. Schnitzler dictated his commentary to R. Zarah ha-Levi, the reader of the Hamburg congregation in London.

The printer J. Wertheimer, founded his Hebrew press in 1820. It remained active for over a century, subsequently under the name of Williams (Wertheimer), Lea, and Company. For a long period this firm published most books in London requiring Hebrew type, apart from the Bible and the books of the missionary societies
