Rare broadsheet prohibiting Jews in Galicia from practicing the apothecaries trade. The decree (Circualre) is issued by the Landesregierung (Provinical Government) of the Austrian Dutchy. The formal decree is dated 12 June, 1829, based on a resolution of his majesty dated from 16 May of that year. The names of Anton Frenherr von Lago and Johann Frenherr v. Bartenstein appear on the broadsheet.
The decree address the business of druggist, which, like the medical profession, was generally practiced by the Jews. The profession of apothecary was prohibited to them under Austrian rule, at first only in West Galicia (1802), then in the entire province (1829).
