Detailed
Description
Broadside of the Irgun Zeva'i Le'ummi forces in Palestine promising additional violence and the arrival of many more fighters on future "Ben-Hecht" boats, to attain statehood. The "illegal" immigrant ship bought by Irgun Zeva'i Le'ummi after World War II was called "Ben Hecht" for its sponsor, the U.S. novelist and playwright, Ben Hecht. When during the War of Independence the Israel government ordered the sinking of the "Altalena," an Irgun ship loaded with fighters which arrived off Tel Aviv and refused to surrender to the Israel government, Hecht, who was one of the organizers of its dispatch, withdrew from further Zionist activity.
