Paragraph 1    Polemic attack against the apostate, Alexander McCall, whose Netivot Olam (London 1839) attacked Jews and the Talmud, and rehashed many old Anti-Semitic cabals.
          
Detailed
Description		    Hebrew and Ladino on facing pages, with the approbation of R. Hayyim Palache (Tevet, 5609). The Author, R. Raphael b. Elijah Kassin (d. 1871), was born in Aleppo, but spent much of his life wandering the Levant and North Africa. His two published Anti-Christian polemics resulted from seeing his brethren converted to Christianity, by zealous missionaries who preyed on an uneducated population. The Author dedicated his life to fight them and preserve Judaism in those countries.

דף ב,ב[ג,א]: מודעא רבא, מאת המחבר. כותב בין השאר: דברתי קשות... כי... לא יתכן לו לאיש המתוכח בדת ודין שלא לדבר קשות על המנגד...כאשר מצינו להחכם הנוצרי [אלכסנדר מק-קויל] המחבר ספר נתיבות עולם [תרגם מאנגלית: יחזקאל אריה הוגה, 1839 London], כי... ידבר עתק... עלינו ועל חכמינו ז"ל ועל אמונתינו... וגם אני כמוהו... דברתי קשות בביאור פרטי הרעות היוצאות מאותם האמונות הכוזבות... מתוך הפתיחה: באגרת מגיד מיצרים אשר הדפסתי בעובי [בעיר ואם בישראל] קושטא... זה תשעה שנים [תר"ו?]... כתבתי... כי... חברתי ספר... דרך אמת... לנתוש... ולהרוס את כל יסודי דת הנוצרים... ולהדיח את כל דברי המנגדים המדברים תועה על התלמוד, כמו ס' נתיבות עולם הנדפס מחדש, אשר הדפיסו הנוצרים, וכדומה לו... ואחרי כן... הדפסתי ספר... דרך החיים [קושטאנדינה תר"ח]... ושם הראתי כי כל דבריו ([של] בעל נתיבות עולם) המה מהבל ימעטו... אמרתי לחבר עוד ספר אחר בדרך קצרה ובדרך שאלה ומענה... זה שואל וזה משיב, והשופט... יוכיח ביניהם... וקראתי את שם הספר הזה תוכחות בלאומים. וחילקתיו למאמרים... שלשה... דרך השכל... דברי הנביאים... עטרת חכמים... אמרתי... להדפיס באגרת הלזו מכל מאמר ענין אחד... עברית ולאדינו, עמוד מול עמוד.
