Broadsheet opposed to joining Agudat Israel. The text begins by noting that once a year, in the month of Iyyar, it is possible to separate from the Va’ad Le’ummi (National Council of Jews of Palestine, which functioned from Oct. 10, 1920, until the establishment of the Provisional Government of the State of Israel in May 1948) by submitting a letter that one did not wish to be a member. The broadsheet reflects the boycott by the Haredi community of the Va’ad Le’ummi. It is caustically critical of R. Moses Blau (1885-1946), the president of Agudat Israel, who is accused of saving souls from the Va’ad for Agudah. It states that when it became known that the work of the devil was prospering, ensnaring men to join Agudat Israel, which had not happened until now, it was found necessary to make known to true year’im (God fearing) the correct way in which to go. The broadsheet continues in this vein, concluding “on whom are we to rely on our Father in Heaven? Woe to the ears that hear and the eyes that see . . .” It then notes that it was definitely determined by an assembly that it is forbidden to us in our land (Erez Israel) by the Torah to associate with Agudah for many reasons.
About half of the broadsheet is taken up with the names of the signatories, which includes many of the greatest sages and rabbinic leadership of the time. There is a two column list of almost fifty names, which includes R. Hayyim Eliezer Shapiro (Munkacs), R. Yoel Titelbaum (Satmer), and R. Shalom Sofer (Brezno). This is followed by additional names of rabbis who have added brief comments. Among these signatories are R. Judah Gruenwald (Satmer), R. Leibush Halberstam (Zanz), R. Joseph Isaac Schneerson (Lubavich), R. Samuel Zevi (Alexander), and R. Joseph Rozen (Rogachover, Divinsk).
