The Author, R. Solomon b. Isaac Sasportas, was Rabbi at Nice from 1690 and died there on Oct. 2, 1724. He was the son of R. Isaac Sasportas and grandson of R. Jacob Sasportas, the famed Rabbi of Amsterdam. Like his father, R. Solomon engaged in kabalistic studies.
Bought to press by R. Solomon b. Misod Adahan, translator and author, who lived in the first half of the eighteenth century. He went from Tafilelt, Morocco, to Amsterdam so as to obtain the necessary means for the ransom of his family and of his synagogue from the hands of the Moors. In the introduction (title verso) he decries the horrible living conditions in his hometown, the endless assaults of the gentiles, hunger and other ills that afflict Tafilelt's Jewish population.
