Description		    Ethical and mystical novellae on the Torah by R. Isaac ben Judah ha-Levi. According to the title page it is “a wondrous commentary, extraordinary and wondrous, novellae on Hameshei Humshei Torah, revealing that which is concealed, all dear, sharp, literal and sweet, as from Sinai engraved, questions and responses . . .” Pa’ne’ah Raza was financed by R. Leib ben Joseph of Posen, R. Samuel ben Zev Wolf of Cracow and R. Solomon Zalman ben David ha-Kohen Borger. There are approbations from R. Jacob Sasportas, rabbi of the Sephardic community and R. Moses Judah ben Kalonymous, rabbi of the Ashkenaz community. There are two brief introductions, the first from the editor, the second from the author, R. Isaac ben Judah ha-Levi. The commentary includes numerous notarikon and gematriot. R. Isaac quotes rishonim such as R. Joseph Kara, R. Joseph Bekor Shor, R. Judah he-Hasid, R. Eleazar of Worms, R. Hayyim of Falaise, and many other Tosafists. The volume concludes with an epilogue from the editor in which he explains the method of his work.

R. Isaac ben Judah ha-Levi (second half of the thirteenth century) was one of the French Ba’aei Tosafot, and studied under R. Hayyim of Falaise (R. Hayyim Paltiel). He wrote tosafot to the Talmud, and is called Ba’al Tosafot mi-Shanz (The Tosafist of Sens).
