Description		    Only edition. 149, [1] ff., quarto, 245:180 mm., usual light age and damp staining, trimmed, old hand on title, scattered worming affecting single letters. A good copy bound in later half leather and marbled paper boards, rubbed.

Description		    On the Hatarot by R. Eliezer Menahem Menli Marak Brit. The text of the title page, set within an ornametal frame, states that it was extracted from the desirable work, Marot ha-Zove’ot, the commentary on the Early and Later Prophets by R. Moses Alshekh. It is a commentary on the haftarot according to the customs of the Ashkenaz, Sephardic, and Italian Jews for the entire year. It further relates that his [Alshekh’s] words were as if given at Sinai, a source of pleasure for both God and man, with the taste of manna, the author (compiler) is R. Eliezer Menahem Menli ben Meir Marak Brit, who gives additional genealogical information, including that he is descended from R. Abraham Broda (d. 1717). The title page is dated with a chronogram derived from the verse, “And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great” Exodus 11:3). In the upper left hand corner of the title page is an inscription which informs that the book was acquired with my money from the youth, R. Hayyim Isaac Agranate by R. Hayyim Isaac Crispan. There are several approbations, followed by the text.

The text includes the haftarot, which are in the center of the page in square vocalized letters. The detailed commentary is in two columns surrounding the haftarot in rabbinic letters. There is an additional approbation from R. Mordecai Halberstam at the end of Genesis. At the end of Exodus are laws dealing with haftarot and the appropriate blessings to be made. The haftarot for Rosh Hodesh, festivals and other occasions when special haftarot are read follow the readings for Shabbat. The volume concludes with glosses from the editor and Marak Brit, a statement from the editor, and errata. Likkutei Man also includes annotations on haftarot by R. Joseph Ben Abraham Hayyun, (d. 1497), last rabbi of the Jewish community of Lisbon. An attractive and detailed commentary on the haftarot.
