Description		    32 (i.e.31) ff., octavo, 193:145 mm., light age and damp staining. A very good copy bound in modern half leather and marbled paper boards.

Description		    Annotated Birkat ha-Mazon and Zemirot by R. Judah Leib ben Samuel Oppenheim. The title page has a decorative woodcut frame with depictions of Moses and Aaron on the sides and cherubim at the top. The text states that it was written by the precise, well known R. Leib ben Samuel of Geluga, who has been called to the yeshivah above, and it is being brought to press by h is son R. Samuel Zenvel. There are approbations from several rabbis, among them R. Abraham Broda. The volume contains the text of Birkat ha-Mazon and Zemirot with a detailed, comprehensive, and lengthy commentary covering grace after meals, Sabbath songs, marriage, and circumsion. An attractive and rare volume.

The printer, Moses ben Israel, was the son of the proselyte, Moses ben Abraham Avinu, who had printed in Amsterdam and Halle. Moses ben Israel’s name appeared earlier as a compositor in a Grace after Meals, Haggadah, and Sabbath hymns with Yiddish translation (1694) printed by his father in Amsterdam. In Offenbach, Moses ben Israel persuaded Bonaventura de Launoy, a printer of separatist-pietist Christian religious works, to add a branch to his press that would print only Hebrew books.
