Description		    Selihot for the entire year printed at the renowned Frankfort a. Main press of Johann Koellner. The text of the title page is set within a frame made up of several rows of varied florets. It states, see this new thing that was never before, Selihot arranged according to the custom of the Frankfort and other Ashkenaz communities which has not been previously printed. It then goes on to describe those additions that make this Selihot unique, namely, the inclusion of pizmonim so that it will not be necessary to search after them as everything is in its place, not delaying or distracting the user from his prayers. Also, when the attractiveness of the work is seen one will open their mouth with song and praise. This is, as the title page states, a selihot for the entire year, for not only are there selihot for Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur, but also for fast days and for even for weekdays. The selihot are set in square vocalized type. The front leave has owners’ signatures in Latin script, one with the date 1833, and the verso in cursive Hebrew.

Selihot are a special order of service consisting of non-statutory additional prayers which are recited on all fast days, on occasions of special intercession and during the Penitential season which begins before Rosh Ha-Shanah and concludes with the Day of Atonement. The word selihah means forgiveness, and in the singular is used to indicate a piyyut whose subject is a plea for forgiveness for sins.

Johann Koellner was an important publisher who, in 20 years of printing, was responsible for about half of the books issued in Frankfort.
