R. Eliezer b. Shem Tov Papo was born in Sarajevo in 1783, served as rabbi in Silistria, where he died in 1828, and his works were published posthumously (Kayserling, p. 105). According to M.D. Gaon, R. Eliezer b. Shem Tov Papo was a rabbi in Sarajevo. He moved to Jerusalem in his old age and died there in 1898 (Gaon, p. 535). Kayserling may have been referring to R. Eliezer b. Yehuda Papo.
