Description		    Novellae on tractate Berakhot by R. Asher ben Zevi Kohen Ashkenazi (1797-1866). The title page has a decorative border and informs that it R. Asher ha-Kohen, Rav in שערשאב, is also the author of Birkat Rosh on tractate Nazir. Birkat Rosh was brought to press by R. Menahem Mendel ben Jehiel. The title page is dated with a chronogram based on the verse “Out of Asher his bread shall be fat מאשר שמנה לחמו (616=1856)” (Genesis 49:20). At the bottom of the page, below the Hebrew text, in Latin letters is the title Berchat Rosz, Tom II, referring to the earlier printing of Nazir. The verso of the title page has three approbations, from R. Joseph ben Meir of Slutsk; R. Dov Tevel of Minsk; and R. Isaac Elhanan Spektor (1817–1896) of Novohrodok. Below is a brief preface from R. Asher. The text is in two columns in rabbinic type, excepting headers and initial words. Birkat Rosh is a comprehensive commentary on Berakho, encompassing aggadaha s well as halakhah. A number of the folios are on bluish paper. This edition appears to be complete, concluding the tractate and with a colophon, although some bibliographic sources call for an additional six unnumbered folios, not present here.
