Description		    Responsa and derashot from R. Hayyim Judah Abraham ben Joshua Abraham Judah (d. 1848). The title page has a long text, written by R. Raphael Israel Benjamin Abraham (Sephardi Tohor) set within a border of decorative florets. It is dated “A man’s wisdom makes his face shine תאיר (611=1851)” (Ecclesiastes 8:1). There is an introduction in which Nissin Joshua Eliezer is praised for supporting the publication of Ahi ve-Rosh and R. Raphael Israel Benjamin Abraham, brother of the author, is praised for his efforts in the publication of the work The introduction is signed by R. Joshua Abraham Crispin (d. 1865), rabbi in Izmir, and R. Hayyim Palaggi (1788-1869), Hakham Bashi. The first part of the volume is comprised of sixteen detailed responsa on Yoreh De’ah (1a-36a); Even ha-Ezer (36a-63a); and Hoshen Mishpat (63a-101a). The second part of Ahi ve-Rosh, beginning the foliation anew, are thirteen derashot on such subjects as Shabbat Teshuvah, Shabbat Zecor, and hespedim. The volume concludes with a detailed index. The text is in two columns in rabbinic type, excepting headers and initial words. The first words of sections are in borders made up of decorative florets.
