R. Pethahiah Mordecai b. Jekuthiel Berdugo (1764–1820), was the head of the rabbinical court in Meknes. Renowed for his wisdom and erudite decisions he was highly respected throughout Morocco. The name Pethahiah was added to his given name when he fell ill, following the verse in Psalms, he fully recovered. R. Pethahiah Mordecai is also the author of Pittuhei Hotam, a two-volume commentary on the Talmud (unpublished).
