Description		    Only edition. [3], xliv, [2], 108 pp., 212:112 mm., wide margins, light age staining. A very good copy bound in contemporary half cloth boards, rubbed.

Description		    Translation with detailed introduction of the first chapter of tractate Berakhot into German by H. G. F. Loewe. The title page states that it is “The first section of the first treatise of Babylonian Talmud, entited Berakhot . . . . It is complete, translated, with a forward and introdcution. With three appendices . . .” There is a detailed table of contents, followed by the forward, (i-xxvi), the introdcution (xxvii-xliv), and the text. The translation includes both the Mishnah and the Gemara, accompanied by footnotes. The first appenix deals with talmudic formulas; the second with notes and parallelisms, the last, with supplementary discussions of individual places in the trnaslation. The text is in Fraktur, that is, old German fonts. A scholarly little remembered early translation of a portion of the Talmud into German.
