Description		    Astronomical tables for the Jewish calendar in two parts from Raphael Levi Hannover. The title page begins, see this new thing that never was before, tables for intercalation, of great quality in brief form. It then enumerates the contents, several dealing with the molad (new moon) and other monthly cycles. There is an attractive front piece on the title page. The verso of the title page has a warning against hasagot gevul (trespass). The text is comprised of numerous tables, accompanying texts, and calculations. The second part has its own title page and informs that its contents include the paths of the sun and moon according to Maimonides in the Moreh Nevukhim. This part too has numerous tables and calculations. The volume ends with a page of errata.

Raphael Levi Hannover (1685–1779) was a mathematician and astronomer. He was born in Weikersheim, and worked as a bookkeeper in the house of Oppenheimer in Hanover, where he met the philosopher Leibniz and became his devoted pupil, studying mathematics, astronomy, and natural philosophy. Among Jews Raphael was known as Rabbi Raphael the mathematician. He wrote two books in Hebrew on astronomy: Luhot ha-Ibbur and Tekhunat ha-Shamayim ve-Khol Zeva’am u-Mahalakham (Amsterdam, 1756). He left several unpublished manuscripts, among them Heshbon ha-Ketz ve-ha-Tehiyyah.
