R. Mordechai Leifer of Nadworna (1835-1894) was the son of R. Issachar Dov (Bertzi) Leifer of Nadworna and Rachel Bloch, the daughter of R. Abraham Loeb Bloch of Nadworna. After his father passed on in 1848, R. Mordechai was taught by his great-uncle R. Meir of Przemyshlany. The dynasty dates back to the first generation of Hasidism. R. Mordechai lived an ascetic life and was reknown for his extreme piety, humility, and insight into human nature. Many wonderful sories abound about him as a miracle worker and savior of Jews. His court in Nadworna attracted thousands of Jews wishing to receive his advice and his blessing. After leaving Nadworna, he lived in Huszt, and finally in Bustino. R. (Bergesacz, 1927) sermons. R. Mordechai also authored several prayers, his minhagim (customs) survive through his decendents.
