R. Kalonymus Kalmish Shapiro (1889-1943) Rebbe of the Chasidic Dynasty of Piaseczno. The Rebbe is known for his Chovot Ha'Talmudim (Warsaw 1932), an oft reprinted guide to the study of Chassidus. He is, however, better remembered for the encouragement and support he offered his brethren in prayer and sacrifice in the Warsaw Ghetto. The Rebbe's poetry still bring a tear to the eye of the reader. He asked the Ghetto inmates to look at the suffering of G-d in inflicting the human suffering rather than their own condition. His advice and consul aided many a person during those horrible years. The life of this sweet sole was extinguished by the Nazis in Treblinka.
