Description		    Rabbinic decisions and polemics concerning the case of Jacob Akrish of Algiers who was suspected of having committed suicide. The title page is simple, consisting of the book title only in oversized letters. There is an introduction, in which it is stated that the work is called Hazut Kashah because of the bitterness of the case. The title is from “A grievous vision (hazut kashah) [is declared to me]” (Isaiah 21:2). The text, printed by lithograph, is in a single column in rabbinic type, excepting headers and initial words.

The subject is the reburial of Akrish in a more distant location from the burial place of other Jews and defends the decisions of the Oran Bet Din. The deceased’s family had addressed the question to R. Meir Uziel (Rishon le-Zion) in Erez Israel, and to R. Meir Penizel and R. Abraham Palaggi in Turkey. They expressed disagreement with the decision to rebury Akrish. In Hazut Kashah the rabbis of Oran respond, particularly to the arguments of R. Palaggi. This is one of several titles addressing this issue, others being Kevod Ya’akov (Izmir, 1892) and Etem Kashot Etem Kashot. Hazut Kashah is a rare work.

נגד ספר זה יצא ספר "אתם קשות". פסק הדין הראשון בענין זה נדפס תחילה בשנת תרנ"א.
