First four issues of ha-Hokair, a periodical dedicated to Jewish Studies. There are Hebrew and French title pages, the former at the front, the latter at the end of the journal. The title page (outer wrapper) gives the price for annual subscriptions in “Germany (6 Mk.), Austria (4 Fl.), Russia (3 Rb.), and France and other lands (10 Fr.). Prices are also given for ha-Hoda’ot. Ha-Hoka’ir is offered as a monthly and its title page has the verse, “Exalt her, and she shall promote you; she shall bring you to honor, when you embrace her” (Proverbs 4:8). The editor is Isaac Salomon Fuchs. The French title page gives a Paris address, 7, Rue Rollin, 7. On the verso of the title pages are listings of the contents. The text is in a single column in square unvocallized Hebrew.
The first issue includes a statement from Fuchs in which he states his purpose in publishing ha-Hokair (Revue Hebraique), two essays on Rav Saadia Gaon, on Midrash Harninu by R. Solomon Buber, Halakhot Pesukot from R. Joel Miller, Hazot Kasha with the commentary Or ha-Hayyim on the Torah by Jacob Reifman, and others. The second issue has articles on Joseph Kara and the commentary on Bereishit Rabba attributed to Rashi by Abraham Epstein, continuations of the article on Rav Saadia Gaon, a discussion of two books by Abraham ibn Ezra by Jacob Reifman, the conclusion of the above article by R. Miller, Tefillot Yisrael by Dr. R. Lewysohn, and Dikdukei Soferim by Solomon Buber. The third issue begins with an obituary with a photo of R. Hayyim Oppenheim and several additional articles. The final issue continues articles and subjects not previously completed and has additional features. The writers featured in this journal were prominent scholars and leaders in their fields of Jewish studies.
